Immediately beyond the door is an antechamber. This first room is empty. Either leading directly from it or another room behind is a passageway guarded by a seated figure of a man with a jackal's head (presumably a representation of Anubis, though possibly of Wepwawet (Upuaut). He sits on a small stool or throne immediately in front of the doorway. At either side of him are two solid gold falcons. It would seem that these stand about four feet high!
Behind the jackal figure is the entrance to another chamber. This contains a great many objects and writings. Ann has picked out two things of interest. The first is a golden statue of a man (presumably a pharaoh). She has only shown him waist upwards but there could be more of him. Round him are various hieroglyphics and other drawings. These show paired hawks, paired hawk-headed men, spear carriers, archers, a serpent-headed lion and other things. She doesn't know what any of this means and invites comment.
In the same room as this golden statue of a man is a sarcophagus. Again this is flanked by golden hawks. On its lid are serpents and falcons. On its side are other hieroglyphics. Again she doesn't know what any of this means but asks for comments
These pictures are presented in good faith and until the door is finally opened and we are able to see inside, none of us know to what extent they are accurate. I for one have an open mind and am very excited by the prospect that a major discovery of Old Kingdom artefacts may be around the corner. If you are able to translate the hieroglyphics shown on the pictures or throw any light onto their curious symbolism, please mail me (Adrian Gilbert) at solos@enterprise.net and I will pass on your comments (if not abusive) to Ann Walker. Thank you for visiting the Solos website.
